In the 1950’s and 60’s, a small ice cream stand stood on this property. During the summer months, visitors to
Lake Wallenpaupack would be sure to stop by for an ice cream and a round of miniature golf, which was located
adjacent to the ice cream stand.
In the late 1970’s, Jack Rose, a native New Yorker, purchased the property and relocated to the area. The newly
constructed and aptly named, SUNSET GROVE RESTAURANT became a huge attraction. In addition to Jack’s
dynamic personality, the location offered stunning and brilliant sunsets
In 1998 the property was purchased by The Kiesendahl Family, owners of Woodloch Pines Resort and Woodloch Springs
Country Club, who have been providing a tradition of excellence and warm hospitality since 1958.
Renovation and new construction to the building was started in the fall of 1998, and the newly named BOAT HOUSE RESTAURANT
opened its doors to the public in May of 1999.
Today, the spirit of Jack Rose continues. The Boat House has grown into the most popular spot on the lake for all ages. Good food
and drink, a warm ambience, an enthusiastic staff, and the stunning sunsets amid the natural beauty of Lake Wallenpaupack has made
the Boat House “the place to be” year-round for family and friends.

Known for its unique rustic décor with tables made from large tree trunks, as well as a great place for families
and friends to gather for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, Sunset Grove quickly grew into one of the most popular spots
on the Lake.
So popular that small cottages were built across the road to accommodate vacationers. Locals made “Sunset” part
of their morning ritual, by stopping by for a quick breakfast and hot cup of coffee, before heading to work.
Sunset Grove flourished into the 80’s and early 90’s as the real estate business “boomed” and vacationers began to
make the Lake their second home.
Sadly, when Jack Rose passed away in 1991 the “Sunset” closed. The building was vacant for several years and soon
began to deteriorate.
